Eating healthy food while away from home can be intimidating. As a busy professional or parent, it is critical to find ways to get your health fix and feel great while away from home.
Here I am going to share with you my favorite tips and tricks for prepping and taking healthy snacks with you wherever you go!
Blender Breakfast
One of my favorite ways to get in my servings of fruit and veggies is through smoothies in the morning. Here you can pack berries, spinach, and even superfoods like acai powder and hemp seeds into one quick and convenient cup. Remember to add a little bit of ginger to each smoothie to help keep your digestion running smoothly.
With countless on the go blender options out there, such as the NutriBullet and Magic Bullet blenders, you can blend your breakfast up in one minute, put a lid on it, and run out the door.
What I love to do to make this even easier is to use 16 ounce pyrex containers (glass storage is the way to go!), add in a full cup of fruit and veggies of my choice, and sprinkle in a variety of superfoods. I’ll make 10 of these at one time and store them in my freezer for fast transfer from container to blender. Just add milk or juice of your choice and be out the door in no time!
Homemade Granola Bars
Granola bars that you purchase from the store are often packed with unhealthy sugars and not enough healthful ingredients like nuts, chia seeds, and hemp seeds. Luckily, making your own granola bars is easy!
Check out this delicious and simple 5-Ingredient Granola Bar recipe from Minimalist Baker. I like to add in a bit of flax, chia, and hemp seeds to boost the health benefits further.
Stock Up On Healthy Snacks
There are a bunch of super healthy and easy to take snacks available at the grocery store. Always have organic nuts and fruits available to you, such as almonds and apples. If you want something more interesting, purchase a healthy trail mix or even make your own with organic nuts, no-sugar-added dried fruits, and dark chocolate chips.
Meal Prep
Spend a few hours every Sunday planning and preparing your meals, especially lunches. Make a few of your favorite recipes that reheat well and portion them out into glass containers to take with you for lunch throughout the week.
You can do the same thing by making twice the amount of food that you need each night for dinner and using the leftovers for lunch at work. The trick to eating healthy when you’re away from home is planning for those times well in advance!
Mason Jar Goodies
One of my favorite ways to bring food with me that I’ve made is in mason jars. I look up recipes for soups, chia pudding, overnight oats, and even layered salads and prep those beforehand. Some of the recipes will freeze well, just be sure that the jars aren’t completely full if you freeze them as they will expand.
Healthy Food On The Go
There you have it, five of my favorite ways to be sure I can eat healthy while away from the house. The main trick is to plan ahead to avoid being stuck without an easy way to satisfy your hunger!
