“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need”.
~Lao Tzu
Oh, letting go is so hard! It can actually even be physically painful at times. That’s usually the hugest sign that it is far beyond time to let it go. These things can be relationships, habits, thoughts, belongings, lifestyle, emotions, and whatever else demands our attention.
What process can help us let go so that lesson doesn’t come back to haunt us in yet another different way? I have found the best way is to face it, look at it, and begin to see its story. Everything in life has a story. Our body, bones, ancestors, pain, and every waking moment we experience has a story if we only stop to listen.
4 Valuable tools to help you let
1. Our elders have taught us how important it is to honor silence. Why is that? Because they understand that only by listening to the silence can there be true healing. This is the space between the pause where the subtle voice of our body or consciousness has room to communicate with us in ways that the mind can’t understand. This is the familiar place to our soul that yearns to reconnect with the deeper aspects of ourselves.
2. Another important tool is our breath. As we allow our body to sit in silence, we must be present with whatever images, memories, emotions, or feelings that arise. Breathe through the many depths and levels of awareness your body speaks of. This is your body talking to you, the ancestors teaching you, and the wind showing you how to allow its force to move through you.
3. If you are still having a hard time letting go, look at any blockages preventing you from letting go. What are blockages? Anything keeping you stuck in your life. These are repressed, suppressed, and unexpressed emotions, belief systems, false ideas, expectations, and negative feelings that keep repeating in your life. Again, breathing and silence will help you get to the root of whatever is holding you back.
4. Above all, Forgive! Forgive with compassion and love. It can take a while to reach this important step, but the reward is huge. You will no longer find yourself in a place of letting your trauma, past, or others dictate how your life plays out. You will experience a newfound sense of inner freedom as you breathe in the new and release the old that is no longer needed on your journey.
Believe in yourself! Trust yourself! Forgive yourself! Remember that no matter where you have been, where you are, or where you are headed, all are welcome.
